Description
Step back 5,000 years on a full-day excursion that combines Crete's most celebrated archaeological site with a relaxed walk through its lively capital. The day begins at the Palace of Knossos, the best-preserved palace of the Minoan era and the heart of Europe's oldest civilization. Together with a licensed guide you will explore a site that once spread over 22,000 m², rose five storeys high and counted around 1,300 rooms, while hearing the myths that made it famous: King Minos, the Labyrinth and the Minotaur.
From Knossos the coach continues to Heraklion. A guided walk through the historic centre takes you along the old Market Street, past the Morosini Fountain in Lions Square, the Venetian-era City Hall and the Church of Saint Titus, one of the city's most important monuments. This is where the locals, the "Herakliotes", meet every day, so you get a real taste of city life in Crete.
You will then have free time for shopping, coffee or lunch. If you prefer more history, you may visit the renovated Heraklion Archaeological Museum on your own during the free time (entrance fee payable on the spot).
