About this experience
Description
Leave the busy north coast behind and spend a day in one of the most distinctive natural settings in Crete. Preveli lies about 35 km south of Rethymno and has been a protected Natura area since 2000. Here the Megalos Potamos river, fed by the waters of the imposing Kourtaliotiko gorge, flows through a natural palm forest and out into the Libyan Sea, forming the famous "Lake of Preveli".
On the way to the beach the coach makes a short photo stop above the springs, where sheer cliffs, green river water and palm trees create a landscape you will not find anywhere else on the island. From the parking area a walk of about 15 – 20 minutes down rock steps brings you to the beach itself.
The rest of the time is yours: swim in the clear sea or in the cool river, relax in the sun, or stroll upstream under the palms and enjoy what many call the most romantic beach in Crete.
Programme
- Pick-up from your nearest pick-up point
- Photo stop at the springs of the gorge
- Arrival at the Preveli parking area and walk down to the beach (approx. 15 – 20 minutes)
- Free time for swimming and exploring the palm forest
- Return to the coach and drive back, arriving approximately 19:00 – 20:00

Should take: Closed comfortable or hiking shoes, swimsuit, towel, hat, sunglasses, sunscreen, light breathable clothes, flip-flops for the beach, camera.
Children: 0 – 2 years free of charge, 3 – 9 years 50% discount.
Important: The beach is reached only on foot via rock steps (about 15 minutes each way), so stable shoes are essential; high heels, sandals and flip-flops are not suitable for the descent. The excursion is not suitable for guests with mobility difficulties, wheelchair users, guests with respiratory or heart conditions, low fitness level, women more than 7 months pregnant, or babies under 3 years old. Pets, non-folding strollers and wheelchairs are not allowed. Smoking and alcoholic drinks are not permitted on the coach.
