Altana Heritage Suites is a monument of Santorini Architecture and a revived Mansion of the 1700s.
This charming boutique hotel brings centuries-old style, history and hospitality luxuriously to life at the highest point of Santorini’s breathtaking volcanic Caldera, in Imerovigli.

The restoration project of a Traditional Mansion owned by a family of generations of Captains that began in 1979, established Altana Hotel in 1983 as the first high standard guest house in the area of Imerovigli and certainly among the first on the Santorinian Caldera.

The idea of Altana was born and was further developed into the unique hospitality experience we offer today, out of sheer passion for the culture and aesthetics the property represented, which in turn reflected everything that is real and authentic about the island of Santorini and the immense wealth of its history.

The property that houses the Altana Heritage Suites has been carefully and painstakingly restored using native materials; its artifacts, treasures of past centuries, have been lovingly repaired to revive a home; a private family retreat. And as such, to this day, the property purposely maintains the feel of a private residence.
Every original architectural rarity, every archway, every terrace, alcove, stairway and corner, every antique and artwork have all been devotedly preserved and combined with the latest technology, highest quality materials, hand-woven fabrics and modern amenities, transforming a dreamy space into a unique hospitality experience.
The historical building dating back over two centuries, between 1779 and 1883 has been preserved, restored and renovated to meet the highest standards of modern luxury. The 3 apartments and 6 suites at Altana, each unique, blend traditional local architecture and aesthetics with modern amenities that tastefully cater for any true traveler’s comfort.

A unique sensitivity to detail and restored original objects revive the simple elegance of tradition, and pay homage to the history of the mansion. A deeply personal service philosophy offers a unique hospitality experience in a setting surrounded by an endless horizon of blue in a bird’s eye view of the Santorinian Caldera, the Volcano, and the whole of the Southern Aegean Sea and neighbouring islands.

We have extended our activities to embrace wine, gastronomy and agriculture with the Altana volcanic farm. By growing our own fruit, beans & vegetables and incorporating the process into our hospitality services we continue to draw the connection between Altana and our passion for discovery, natural conservation, eco-friendly travelling and hospitality.

We have no TV’s at the Altana Heritage Suites, nothing that distracts from the stillness and the dramatic beauty of the landscape at the volcanic caldera’s highest point.
